Joshua Ian Rosenstein is a member of Sandler Reiff Lamb Rosenstein & Birkenstock, P.C. He joined Sandler Reiff in 2012, after a decade of both in-house and private practice in Washington, D.C. From 2007 to 2012, Josh served as in-house General Counsel of one of the nation’s largest fully-integrated lobbying, communications, and consulting firms. Prior to that, he was an associate with the D.C. offices of both Gibson Dunn and Goodwin Procter, where he focused on employment law counseling and advice.
Josh primarily focuses his practice in the regulation of advocacy, including compliance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and federal, state, and local laws governing the lobbying industry. He also advises corporations, non-profits, candidates, state parties, and individuals on navigating the complex laws impacting the political industry, including employment law; government ethics; pay-to-play; gift rules; contracts and commercial law; non-profit regulations; and campaign finance and general political law issues.
Josh is a frequent speaker and panelist at conferences, and has guest-lectured at several law schools. He is often cited in the media as an expert on political law, and has recently appeared in publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politico, ABC News, and Rolling Stone. He has also appeared on National Public Radio, MSNBC, Vice News, and other broadcast and cable outlets.
He previously co-taught employment law at The George Washington University Law School, and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at William & Mary Law School, where he teaches a course on lobbying regulation. He was awarded the William & Mary Election Law Educator of the Year Award.
Josh is a summa cum laude graduate of Columbia University and has his law degree from Yale. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the bars of the District of Columbia and Virginia (associate member status). He lives in Maryland with his wife, children, and recalcitrant dog.
